An eruption Cyst is also known as a congenital cyst or an eruption hematoma It happens when new teeth are trying to come out of the gums. It is usually a small fluid swelling sack that is formed around the erupting tooth. Mostly it's bluish-black in color and common in babies who have started teething. CAUSES:- Usually, the reason is unclear. 1. Caries/ Cavities. It may happen due to irritation or infection in the baby's teeth which may cause trauma or inflammation of the gums. Some studies say that if there is a presence of cavities in primary teeth, then infection from those teeth might lead to the formation of eruption cysts during the eruption of permanent teeth. 2. Overcrowding Sometimes when two teeth grow next together, there is overcrowding inside the gums which may lead to cyst formation. 3. Trauma Sometimes a small trauma or injury to the gums can also lead to cyst formation. This can happen when the baby is chewing on a toy and can get hurt. In adults, food injury to gums can cause a cyst. A cyst due to trauma is called an eruption hematoma in which the fluid is mixed with blood. SYMPTOMS The cyst might sound painful but mostly it's not. It can make a baby's gum very tender. The first foremost symptom is continuous irritation of the gums. In small babies, you will notice a bump-like structure on the gums. Usually, the fluid in the bump is mixed with blood, so the bump might turn in bluish-black in color. You don't need to worry, about seeing the color change. You need to wait for 2 weeks to see any changes in swelling. You can go for a dental visit if you don't see any change Your child may or may not have more than one cyst in his oral cavity. TREATMENT In most cases it does not require any treatment, it disappears on its own. Cysts last for mostly few days to two weeks If it lasts more than 2 weeks, you need to visit a dentist. Even a dentist might monitor it for a few more weeks and you might need to go to the dentist for a regular check-up In case if the cyst is creating a hindrance in the eruption of new teeth, then your dentist might have to remove the cyst by removing the fibrous tissue to help teeth grow properly. Another method is that only a slight cut is made on top of the cyst to release all the fluid and help teeth grow properly.
